  1. 1896The Melchers family forms Melchers Gin & Spirits Distillery Company Ltd. of Canada with Jan J. Melchers at the head.
  2. 1914Fleischmann's Canada buys the distillery and later uses it for bourbon and American rye production for Canada.
  3. 1928Fleischmann's exits, the distillery goes public, and the Marchand-connected ownership group takes control.
  4. 1969After a 1967 control change, Melchers expands Berthierville by about 90 percent and ties the site to the Minnedosa venture.
  5. 1977Melchers collapses into bankruptcy in March; a trustee keeps Berthierville operating until the Melcan consortium steps in later that year.
  6. 1984Seagram's buys out the Melcan partners in November and announces the distillery's closure.
  7. 1985Demolition crews level the Berthierville plant by November 1985.
