  1. 1896-97Established by William Grant on the site locally known as "The Smugglers’ Glen". This site has been popular because of its excellent spring water. In those days the distillery was one of the most modern distilleries in the United Kingdom. An other source says: Built by the Tamdhu Distillery Co. Ltd., owned by a consortium of blenders
  2. 1899Purchased by the Highland Distilleries Co. Ltd.
  3. 1900Production was halved because of the resession
  4. 1927-47Distillery was closed because of depression
  5. 1972Extended from two to four stills
  6. 1974Stills became steamheated
  7. 1975Extended from four to six stills and largely rebuilt. Saladin maltings. Visitor centre in former Knockando railway station, viewing galleries
