Tullibardine whisky distillery
Tullibardine is a fairly modern distillery, established in 1949 by the architect William Delmé-Evans (who was also responsible for Jura and Glenallachie) and C. I. Barrett a retired Excise Officer. Tullibardine was only the third distillery to be opened in Scotland since the Pattison whisky crash of the 19th century preceded by Malt Mill in 1908 and and Inverleven in 1938.
Following an attempted hostile takeover by an unnamed customer which cut the distilleries cash flow Tullibardine was sold on to Glasgow based whisky brokers Brodie Hepburn Ltd. Brodie Hepburn were acquired by Invergordon Distillers Ltd. who were themselves acquired by White & Mackay in 1993 and the distillery was mothballed
The distillery lay silent until purchased by a group of private investors for 1.1 million. While officially resuming production in 2003 the distillery was running at only a fraction of capacity for some time thereafter. Thereafter a confusing number of bottles and finishes were released making it hard to establish a particular style. Recently however (following the acquisition by Picard in 2011) a standard range has been released.
Recent investment in the distillery has seen the addition of warehouses, a new blending and bottling site and a small, on-site, one man cooperage
