1923Shinjiro Torii establishes Yamazaki as Japan's first purpose-built whisky distillery.
1924The first Yamazaki spirit runs under the supervision of Masataka Taketsuru.
1928Suntory launches Shirofuda (White Label), one of the earliest Japanese blends from Yamazaki spirit.
1937Kakubin is released and becomes the turning-point blend for Japanese whisky rather than mere whisky made in Japan.
1984The Yamazaki single malt brand is launched, setting up the distillery's later pivot from blend componentry toward single malt identity.
1989Yamazaki is reworked to create fruitier, more diverse single malt styles using a smaller mash tun, wooden washbacks and new smaller stills.
2005A further stillhouse expansion adds new pairs modelled partly on the original 1923 stills.
