- 1923Shinjiro Torii establishes Yamazaki as Japan's first purpose-built whisky distillery.
- 1924The first Yamazaki spirit runs under the supervision of Masataka Taketsuru.
- 1928Suntory launches Shirofuda (White Label), one of the earliest Japanese blends from Yamazaki spirit.
- 1937Kakubin is released and becomes the turning-point blend for Japanese whisky rather than mere whisky made in Japan.
- 1984The Yamazaki single malt brand is launched, setting up the distillery's later pivot from blend componentry toward single malt identity.
- 1989Yamazaki is reworked to create fruitier, more diverse single malt styles using a smaller mash tun, wooden washbacks and new smaller stills.
- 2005A further stillhouse expansion adds new pairs modelled partly on the original 1923 stills.
